IFC Films on Wednesday announced two star-driven films that will be released simultaneously in theaters and via VOD: Tom Kalin’s crime drama “Savage Grace,” starring Julianne Moore and Hugh Dancy, and Justin Lin’s Bruce Lee mockumentary “Finishing the Game,” featuring James Franco and MC Hammer.

Because each film sports bankable actors, IFC might test whether exhibitors resistant to day-and-date releases will book films also available on VOD.

“Grace,” the $5 million true story of socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland’s 1972 murder, was picked up for the IFC First Take day-and-date distribution program along with Lin’s $500,000-range comedy, which imagines the recasting of Lee’s final role in “Game of Death” before filming was completed.

As of now, the Wagner/Cuban Cos.’ Landmark Theatres is one of the only chains to book First Take films. Wagner/Cuban has its own day-and-date program, Sneak Preview, airing select HDNet Films features once on its HDNet Movies cable channel as they are released in theaters.

Despite the star power, neither project is exactly mainstream fare. The Killer Films production “Grace,” based on the book by Natalie Robins and Steven M.L. Aronson, contains scenes of incest, homosexuality and a gory murder. It’s Kalin’s first film since his 1992 crime drama “Swoon.”

“It’s definitely challenging, but in a good way,” IFC vp acquisitions Arianna Bocco said.

First things first, I added some stuff to the gallery from various sources. TIFF fan photo credits are given with the photos (if you want me to remove your photos, just send me an e-mail and I’ll take them off immediately) and the magazine scans are thanks to Becoming Jane. I also added one new still from Savage Grace, a shot of Hugh and his mate George Pendle, and one old (but attractive) stage photo from Journey’s End.

Okay, moving on, and more importantly, I’ve decided to make some forum changes. I.E., I want to move it, build up the activity, make it a real gathering place for fans to come and read or make posts. SO I ask that even guests read over THIS POST. If you’re not a registered user, you can still read, but you can’t reply or vote in the poll. However, you can still make a difference! You can either register and wait for your account to be approved (I’ll approve them faster) or you can reply to this entry or the tag board (or even send me off an e-mail). Either way, your opinion does matter. I don’t want to make any rash decisions without your feedback as I know the forum does have a small bulk that does participate.

I finally got around to buying Best Life and scanning it up. The spread is great and is making me excited for fall and cooler weather.

I also added some other great stuff like caps from the Evening UK trailer (which features the same clips as the U.S. but in different sequence, length, and quality) and the Beyond the Gates (Shooting Dogs) Japanese trailer. I also found one other version of an Evening DVD cover and poster, and two more stills. I wish that had been the original movie art, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Lastly, I added one more poster for Savage Grace and one stage door shot from Journey’s End.

Tomorrow is my first day of my fall semester, so if updates are a bit more spaced out, that’s why.
