HUGHDANCY.info: The Largest Hugh Dancy Source on the Web
April 24, 2007

Good morning! Once again, it’s been relatively busy in the Hugh world. I’ve added about 25 shots of Hugh from the Safe Horizon Benefit Kick Off Reception that he attended last night. I also added 1 new magazine scan (did you guys see I reorganized that section? I hope you like it!) from hellblazer06 @ Livejournal.com. Thank you so much! The photo is great. If you’re also a member of the Forum, there are new goodies in the Members Extra section.

There’s also a report from the Monday Easter Bonnet event Hugh attended yesterday. Thank you to mint0621 at Broadway World. This tickled me pink.

I looooved the Journey’s End skit; “Journey Boys”. “We are the best reviewed play on Broadway…we have also the emptiest audience. It’s very intimate, the 11 of us on stage, with 11 people in the audience. We have the same gross as Jersey Boys, who is listed above our show…the only difference is a 1 in the millions spot.”

Then they did a hilarious rendition of Jersey Boys songs, with changed lyrics. Stark sang “Frankie’s” part. “We are a straight play…with STRAIGHT actors!” Hilarious. The song also mentioned something about how maybe the play would sell better if Hugh Dancy did a shower scene, and we see Hugh Dancy rush out on stage wearing a towel around his waist & a shower cap on, and rushes off.

The Journey’s End cast really had a great attitude. Loved loved their skit!!

Hopefully there’ll be some pictures or media from that in some way!

I just added roughly 58 shots of Hugh and Claire Danes at the opening night of the new Broadway play, Frost/Nixon. For those who are wondering, Journey’s End has an earlier show on Sundays (later than a matinee, earlier than an evening), hence why he was able to attend.

I started a layout the day before yesterday and managed to get it done in faster time than ever before. I thought it would take a week and lo and behold…! Feedback would be ENDLESSLY appreciated! Also tell me if problems arise or if I missed a spot when checking it over.

I’ll announce a new Site of the Month tomorrow or so. :] Thank you to Annie-Hathaway.com for HDi’s FIRST award ever! We’re their March SOTM. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. Thank you again!

Here come the gallery additions.

Well, in case you haven’t gotten the Google Alerts, Journey’s End can make every Hugh fan very, very proud. It got astounding reviews across nearly the entire board from TIME Magazine, New York Post, Reuters, Variety, and reviews for Hugh were shining, too. Here are just four:

“Hugh Dancy, who is astounding as a broken-down young soldier fighting in the trenches of World War I whose nerves are ‘battered to bits’ through the daily horror he witnesses – and because of the whisky he drinks to blot it out — in the Broadway production of Journey’s End…Dancy is a revelation, as his Captain Stanhope tries to grapple with the hell and degradation of war.”

“The cast’s three standouts include Hugh Dancy, an import from the English production, who has a marvelous stage presence as the troupe’s cynical, alcohol captain.”

“Stanhope, the flashiest role, was first portrayed by a young Laurence Olivier. Mr. Dancy (who played Essex to Helen Mirren’s Elizabeth I on television) has the cheekbones and brooding gaze of Olivier in his matinee idol era. But he doesn’t overuse them, emphasizing instead just how much of a boy Stanhope is, despite the assumed official swagger. ‘Tuck me in, Uncle,’ he says to Osborne at bedtime, and there’s a part of him that really is back in the nursery.”

As Captain Stanhope, the battle-weary company commander who uses whiskey to soothe his frayed nerves with limited success, Dancy is magnificent in both anger and magnanimity in a role initially played by the 2l-year-old Laurence Olivier, who could hardly have been better.

I will be compiling pictures and media from last night and posting it to Journey’s End. In addition to the great reviews and whatnot, I also updated the gallery with 7 more stage photos and 43 pictures from last night. If I happen to get more, I’ll obviously update. To those who are forum members, there are more over there.
